Kyuusu 2
made by Shimojo Akira
Unglazed Kyuusu - 焼き〆急須
This green tea teapot (Kyuusu) is made from a mixture of Toride City from Ibaraki Prefecture and Arakida clay from Saitama Prefecture. Both of these clays are harvested and processed by hand to create a workable material from scratch.
Each teapot is handmade from start to finish, including a ceramic mesh to filter out unwanted tea leaves.
Kyuusu teapots are traditionally made from high-iron clays such as the ones used here and are left unglazed to allow contact between the clay body and the tea. This contact is said to enhance the flavour of the tea.
